Reservation for College (RFC) is a standards-based instructional program in college preparation and educational achievement for students in the fourth-sixth grade and their families. It is also a tool for motivating teachers and for enabling principals to create a college-going culture at their schools.
It is a unique program that is aimed at creating an understanding of the steps necessary for college. To date, the materials have been taught by both elementary school teachers and paraprofessionals during the school day as well as in an after-school setting. All RFC lessons are aligned with state standards and academic frameworks for grades fourth through sixth. Lessons integrate language arts, mathematics and social studies. As students progress from fourth through sixth grade, they engage in activities that demystify the college-going process and begin to develop the tools they need to excel in school.
Is to help students from communities with currently low college-going rates to graduate from high school, be prepared to attend college and be successful in whatever career they choose. RFC has been developed in collaboration with school teachers and administrators to transform low-performing schools into high-achieving institutions, where college is an option for all students.

The Reservation for College Program is the signature initiative of the UC Davis Academic Preparation Programs and Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP). Our goal is to provide ongoing academic support beginning in elementary school with the Reservation for College Program and continuing through middle and high school with enrollment in EAOP. RFC helps students and their families understand the requirements for entering college and the relationship for a college education to career. Most importantly, participation in the program empowers families with the belief that college is a realistic goal. (Materials are available in English and Spanish).
