CAHSEE on Target

CAHSEE on Target was designed to help high school students who have failed, or are in danger of failing, the math and/or English Language Arts sections of the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE). CAHSEE on Target materials can be adapted to meet the needs of a wide range of learning communities, including school-based CAHSEE prep classes, after-school programs, summer academies, and community-based learning centers.

The Curriculum

The curriculum consists of five workbooks for mathematics and six for English Language Arts, see below chart for details. The curriculum is designed to help pinpoint each student’s areas of weakness and to then address those weaknesses using a comprehensive curriculum for both the mathematics and English Language Arts sections of the CAHSEE.

CAHSEE on Target provides a model for targeted, structured and comprehensive support in a variety of settings.

In the classroom, the CAHSEE on Target materials can be implemented as a stand-alone curriculum by the teacher to supplement her/his current CAHSEE preparation program. Alternately, the classroom teacher may choose to have a classroom aide, paraprofessional support person, or classroom tutors use the curricular materials to assist the students.

The CAHSEE on Target has also been implemented with success in after-school sites and tutoring centers. In these instances, the site coordinator has either worked through the curriculum and supplemental Web site tutorials with students in need of greater support or has overseen tutors who have provided students direct assistance.
